Functions of CS&CP department
The headquarters of the Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection department is located in the 4th floor, Ezhilagam, Chepauk and has three wings to handle various functions entrusted to it by Government:
1.Public Distribution System Wing
The PDS wing handles the following functions
(a) Issue and management of ration cards
(b) Opening and bifurcation of Fair Price Shops (FPS)
(c) Allotment of Essential Commodities to FPS
(d) Implementation of special schemes like Free LPG scheme
(e) Monitoring and Supervision of FPS
(f) Monitoring and Licensing of Kerosene Wholesale dealers
(g) Enforcement against smuggling of PDS commodities
(h) E-Governance in PDS
(i) Implementation of various control orders under the Essential Commodities Act 1955
(a) Awareness creation among citizens on Consumer Rights
(b) Enforcement and legal action against consumer rights violations
(c) Provide policy inputs to State and Central Governments on CP
3.Price Monitoring Cell
(a) Monitoring of prices of various food items on a daily basis
(b) Prepare reports on price outlook and control strategies
