Session 2. Need for Consumer Clubs in Residents’ associations

Q: How big can a club be? How cn we use the RTI ACT? Will CAI help?

A: There is no minimum or maximum size for forming consumer blubs by RWA. We can use RTI Act for knowing any details pertaining to a Government department/office. All Consumer Organizations including CAI can help any consumer in this regard.

Session 4 Metrowater

Questions: How can tenants share the cost of water charges.

Answer – flat rate is applicable until water meters are fixed.

Question – Will the amount of water supplied be depedent on the numb er of flats in a bulding?

There will be only one connection per block of flats but the pipe dimension will be dependent on the number of flats.

Question – is the increase in water charges with retrospective effect justifiable.

Corporation has been given the authority to fix the rates.

Question – Will the department take the responsibility of supplying certified meters?

Answer – Meters will be supplied but charged for. The associations should take the responsibility.

Submeters can be fixed by individual owners. There is a provision under metro water rules. It is for the association to sort out all the problems.

Session 9 – Legal Metrology and You

Q: Why is that consumers are not kept informed of raids Conducted by the legal metrology department with full details of the shop/company and action taken?

A: This was being done in his District and the Press was being informed. He said that he would suggest to his superiors to pass on.

The information of such raids in other districts as well for the information of the public especially those information on offenders booked under various cases so as to inform consumers where not to buy goods.
